Keeper Charters offers customers the opportunity to view lobsters being harvested. We have a small lot of lobster traps that we tend regularly to show the process of traditional lobster fishing. We hand-haul the traps, remove and measure the lobsters, rubber band the claws, and rebait the traps. The variety of life in the traps can be quite surprising. You keep the legal sized male lobsters. Female lobsters, per Maine law, must be returned. Many consider the lobster pull to be one of the highlights of our trips.

Some creatures we have found in our traps:

•cod

•flounder

•snails
•sand dollars

•tiny eels

•green crabs

•spider crabs

•rock crabs

•skates

•even giant female lobsters up to six pounds

(these must be returned)
